Janie
Morris, a cradle-born Episcopalian, and her husband, Walker, transferred to Holy
Communion in the fall of 1969. She has been active in many aspects of parish life.
Through the years she served as a Sunday school teacher, Carnival Chairman, altar
guild member, officer of Vanderhorst Guild, choir member, and vestry member. Janie
has been involved with a number of volunteer groups though the years including
being president of Maternal Welfare League and an officer of Les Passes.
Janie
graduated from Auburn University in 1966 and returned to her education in 1996,
receiving a Masters Degree in Social Work in 1998. After a two-year period as
a hospital social worker working with the elderly and adult and child psychiatric
patients, she has found a home as Coordinator of Pastoral
Care at Holy Communion. Her duties at Holy Communion include weekly meeting
with clergy and Pastoral Care Team Leaders
to plan contacts for the coming week. In addition, she documents visits and calls
by both clergy and lay persons, provides ongoing training opportunities for Pastoral
Caregivers, and links those in need with parish and community services.
Janie
enjoys spending weekends at Moon Lake with her children and grandchildren, reading
legal thrillers, gardening, writing, and French hand sewing and embroidery.
