CHILDCARE FOR INFANTS & TODDLERS
As Church of
the Holy Communion continues to grow, we are determined to provide
the finest space anywhere for child care and children’s programs.
We have new child care facilities on the second floor right down
the hall from the church offices. Being nurtured with care in a
loving, trust-filled environment is one way young children develop
trust in the predictability of events. That loving care serves as
the foundation for future faith development. The Infant and Toddler
Center is available for infants up to 4-year-olds 15 minutes prior
to most worship services and during Wednesday evening programs.

CHILDREN'S CHAPEL
A special child-centered
service with music and story based on the liturgy of the day is
held every Sunday during the 9 and 11:15 a.m. services (in summer
during the 10 a.m. service) for children ages 3 – 7. It provides
an environment that enhances spiritual growth and prepares children
to better understand the worship service. During the opening hymn,
the crucifer stands at the steps leading to the altar as the children
gather and process to the Children’s Chapel, located upstairs
in Room 309. The children are accompanied by the children’s
chapel leader and adult volunteers. The children return to the Eucharist
during the passing of the Peace. All are welcome to join with our
youngest members to celebrate the word of God.
| CATECHESIS OF
THE GOOD SHEPHERD | |
This
Christian formation program for children is based on the belief
that any interpersonal relationshipis always a mystery and that
there is a deep bond between God and a child that produces in the
child a desire to draw near to God. The catechist’s role is
to prepare the environment and to make presentations that “call
forth” the child’s response rather than “pour
in” information. The adult is a co-wonderer with the child
as they meditate together questions generated by the Scriptures
with the prepared environment as a developmental aid.
Catechesis is offered to children age 2 (by June 1 of the current school year) through age 9, who meet in groups according to age in a special space called an atrium. Currently we have
two Level I atria for ages 3-6 and two Level II atria for ages 6-9. The Little Lambs atrium is for two-year-olds. The atria are led by trained catechists, assisted by trained adult volunteers.
Parents and other interested adults are encouraged to visit any atrium to gain an understanding of the program and determine if they’re interested in becoming a catechist or assistant. The Catechesis is always in need of volunteers willing to take the time to be trained to work in the program. If you are interested
in becoming a catechist, assistant, or support volunteer please
contact Debra Satterfield.
BIBLE
LESSONS & ADVENTURES FOR MY SPIRITUAL TREK (BLAST)
Fourth
and fifth graders are guaranteed a BLAST (Bible Lessons and Adventures
for my Spiritual Trek) at Holy Communion every Sunday. Based on
the “Workshop Rotation Model,” this Sunday School program
invites the kids to experience Bible lessons each week in a different
medium. The classes rotate through story, cooking, drama, video
production and artistic creation. Classes begin in Blaisdell dining
hall following the 9 a.m. service where adult “shepherds”
then rotate with the kids to provide continuity as the learning
environment changes.
For more information
on BLAST, contact Debra Satterfield.
