The Rev. Jonathan Chesney

You’re invited to read the Book of Acts with us this Easter!

God continues to speak through these stories of the young Church learning and growing in its vocation in the world “in an unprecedented and unpredictable time." These stories continue to offer wisdom amidst the chances and changes of the life of the Church today, helping us look for where the Holy Spirit is acting and guiding us.

Using a curriculum developed by our friends at Christ Church Cathedral, Houston, Fr. Jonathan and the Holy Communion clergy team will facilitate a Zoom small group for sharing in reflection each Wednesday night beginning on April 29 through June 3.

The daily readings will begin this Wednesday, April 22, beginning with the following schedule:

4/22/2020: Acts 1:1-1:26 | Prologue, Ascension, Matthias Chosen
4/23/2020: Acts 2:1-13 | Coming of the Holy Spirit
4/24/2020: Acts 2:14-36 | Peter Addresses Crowd
4/25/2020: Acts 2:37-47 | First 3,000 Converts, Common Life Among Believers
4/26/2020: Acts 3:1-26 | Peter Heals a Beggar and Preaches
4/27/2020: Acts 4:1-22 | Peter and John Before the Council
4/28/2020: Acts 4:23-31 | The Believers Pray for Boldness

The prayer practice accompanying this week’s reading is as follows: set apart a quiet time and place to pray each day. Set a timer for at least five minutes. Ask God to be with you while you pray. As you inhale, pray, “Spirit of the Living God,” and as you exhale, pray, “Fall afresh on me.” Allow yourself to sink into the prayer; if you are distracted, acknowledge the distraction and just start praying again. At the end of your time, talk to God about how that went. Give thanks for your time together, and say, “Amen.”

To sign up, please email Mary Beth Darrow at You'll then receive the Zoom login information. You may participate by video on computer or phone or just by audio on your phone. Even if you do not wish to participate in the virtual small group, please feel free to read along with us for the next six weeks as a part of your own devotion!
