The rubric “A hymn, psalm, or anthem may be sung” is found frequently in so many of the liturgical forms in the Book of Common Prayer. Throughout the years, Church of the Holy Communion parishioners have often asked, “How do select the hymns and other music that we use in our worship?” In four successive online sessions, we will explore the various types of liturgical music that we use – hymns, Psalms, anthems, and service music – and the ways that music illuminates the scriptural and liturgical texts in our worship.
