BROTHERHOOD OF ST. ANDREW

The stated purpose of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew is the spread of Christ’s Kingdom among men and boys. The Brotherhood is open to men and boys of this parish as well as any parish in the Diocese, as we are the only chapter operating in West Tennessee. Meetings are held twice
monthly on the 2nd and 4th Saturday mornings at 8:00 a.m. in Quilling Chapel. On the 2nd Saturday, meetings consist of Holy Eucharist, and a prepared breakfast of eggs, bacon, grits and biscuits followed by Bible Study. The 4th Saturday meeting is a service of Morning Prayer followed by donuts and coff ee in the Parish Hall and Bible Study. Each year in December, offi cers and new members are installed at a special service followed by a catered breakfast for members and their spouses. The Brotherhood also hosts the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper to raise money for those in need. All Episcopal laymen are invited to become members of the Holy Communion chapter of the Brotherhood of St. Andrew.

DAUGHTERS OF THE KING

The Order of the Daughters of the King is an order of laywomen of The Episcopal Church who pledge themselves to a lifelong program of prayer, service and evangelism. Regular meetings are held each month at which time members participate in study activities to increase their knowledge and faith. Each woman called to this ministry prays daily for specific individuals, parishioners and those for whom parishioners have requested prayer. All names and circumstances are kept confidential.

THE KINGSMEN

The Kingsmen is a gathering for all men of the parish that meets on the fi rst Tuesday evening of each month from 5:45 to 7:15 p.m. for drinks, supper, a speaker and fellowship in Cheney Parish Hall. Past speakers have included the Rev. Scott Morris, M.D., the founder and executive director of the Church Health Center, and Shelby County Mayor AC Wharton.

SUPPER CLUB

Supper groups at Church of the Holy Communion began in 1989 to promote fellowship among parishioners. Groups consist of 8 – 12 people who meet in each other’s homes for an evening of food and fellowship with each member of the group contributing to the menu. A new group is now forming.

The Third Quarter Group is for adults of all ages who like to take advantage of a variety of activities, many of which are held on weekdays. The objective is to offer regular programs
and outings that will be of interest to people who like to stay on the go.

YOUNG PROFESSIONALS

Holy Communion has been blessed with many young professionals in the church. The young professionals group has been defi ned as individuals who are typically 20 and 30-year-olds without children. With this being said all are welcome! A group of 5 young professionals in the church have been meeting on a regular basis to come up with some social and spiritual opportunities that will bring the young professionals at Holy Communion closer together.

CROSSROADS

Crossroads is currently a social gathering. They typically gather on the 4th Friday of each month at a restaurant around town or at someone’s home. They visit different locations frequently to acodomate as many people as possible and to try out new places together. The purpose of Crossroads is to get to know others in the church, so that we can have someone to sit with in church or at Sunday school; we might go as a group to the shrimp supper, the EYC dinner
dance or a community event; or we might work together on a service project, such as Habitat or the Angel Tree at Christmas.
