Acolytes grow spiritually in the church by actively assisting
the clergy in the worship of God during the 9:00 a.m. or
11:15 a.m. regular Sunday services and at other special
services. Acolytes perform a variety of duties, including
carrying the cross in procession (Crucifer), carrying the
torches (Torch Bearer) and carrying banners on occasion
(Banner Bearer). They also assist the celebrant in preparing
the Altar for the Eucharist (Server/Clergy Crucifer). All
youth from middle school through high school age are
encouraged to serve as acolytes. Acolytes are trained by
the Acolyte Master and serve about once every four or five
weeks, at either the 9:00 a.m. or 11:15 a.m.services.

ALTAR
GUILD The Altar Guild is open to all parishioners and includes
a cross section of the parish. Each of the 60 members is
assigned to a team which has responsibility one week a
month for preparing the altar, vestments, and communion
vessels for all worship services that week. The services
include weddings, funerals and baptisms, as well as Holy
Eucharist. New members are welcome anytime of the
year. Contact the Altar Guild director for an orientation if
you think this is a ministry you will enjoy.

ALTAR FLOWERS
The
flowers that adorn the Altar can be given in memory of or in honor of individuals.
Specific dates for giving the flowers can be requested and the flowers are provided
by a local florist. To donate or for more information, contact the church office.
FESTIVAL DECORATING This
group plans, procures, and arranges special altar and chancel decorations for
Thanksgiving, Christmas, Palm Sunday, Easter, and Pentecost. Financial donations
in memory of or in honor of individuals for the special Christmas and Easter decorations
are acknowledged in the service bulletin. For more information contact Ruth
Dando, 761-4872.
In each celebration of the Eucharist and at the Daily Offices
most mornings, lay people are very much involved. The
various roles performed by lay persons include: lector,
Eucharistic Minister, and Eucharistic Visitor. A lector sits in
the congregation and comes to the lectern during worship
to read the fi rst scripture lesson of the day. A Eucharistic
Minister called the Intercessor wears vestments, sits in
the chancel area to read the second scripture lesson of the
day, leads the Prayers of the People and serves a chalice. A
Eucharistic Minister called Chalice Bearer wears vestments,
sits in the chancel area and administers a chalice. Chalice
bearers may also serve as subdeacon, standing behind the
altar during the Eucharistic Prayer. A Eucharistic Visitor is
trained to take Holy Communion to those who are unable
to att end worship. During Lent each year, we encourage
people to consider this ministry. The rector must approve all
these persons serving, and the bishop of the diocese must
also approve and license all but lectors. It is diocesan custom
to license people for two years. Generally speaking, people
will serve once each month during their term of service.

Eucharistic Visitors: A eucharistic visitor is trained to take Holy Communion
to those who are unable to att end worship. At the end
of the Sunday morning services, eucharistic visitors are
prayed for and sent out to deliver Communion to those
in need. This fall, training for eucharistic visitors will be
off ered in October.

An usher is oft en the fi rst person to welcome a guest who comes
to worship at CHC on Sunday – and our one opportunity to make
a good fi rst impression. If you would like to share your time and
talent we would welcome your participation in this important
ministry. Please fi ll out an “Update” card, that can be found in
the church pews, to note your desire to become an usher.
