| BAPTISM
Welcome
one another therefore as Christ has welcomed you,
for the glory of God - Romans
15:7
The
next celebration of Baptism will take place on Sunday, June 21.
If you would like to be baptized or to have your child(ren) baptized,
contact Katherine Bush at 767- 6987. Our next baptism date will
be on August 30.
Baptism
is a sacrament of welcoming for both children and adults.
When a child is born in a parish, it is cause for
rejoicing for the entire body of Christ. At CHC, the Mary
and Martha Guild as well as the clergy are eager to support new parents. Therefore,
early in one's pregnancy or at the time of birth, we encourage parents to contact
the church. This will enable us to begin providing support and information about
baptism. Our Book of Common Prayer designates certain days in the
liturgical year as being especially appropriate for the celebration of Holy Baptism.
These are: the Easter Vigil (Saturday night before Easter Day), the Day
of Pentecost, All Saints Day or the Sunday after All Saints
Day, the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord (the First Sunday after the Epiphany)
and the Annual Bishops Visitation. Increasingly, it is customary
in Episcopal churches to reserve the celebration of Holy Baptism for these days.
In this way, all members of the parish are able to join in affirming their own
baptismal promises, and those who are baptized are able to identify the sacrament
of their new birth with a special feast day of the Church. Given the size
of our parish, we will occasionally celebrate Holy Baptism on an additional Sunday
in the summer or early fall. If this schedule represents a hardship for anyone,
we will do all we can to make accommodations. If you would like to be baptized
or to have your children baptized, contact Katherine
Bush.
