Holy Communion Choirs: Up and Running Again!

A musical roundup will begin on the third floor of Church of the Holy Communion in late August, to which all boys and girls and adults are invited. Our parish choirs have enjoyed a well-earned summer break, and having our choirs back to sing and ring on Sunday mornings will be great. These weekly mini-rodeos (a.k.a. rehearsals) are rewarding experiences of spiritual joy for all choir members, and you and your children are invited and welcomed to participate.

The great news is that we have a choir that is tailor-made for you! If you are interested, or if you know someone who should be interested, please contact Dr. Jane Gamble or Ellen Koziel. (I’ll be back from sabbatical on Aug. 21.) Our parish choirs are made up of wonderful, welcoming people who share a love of music and the church.

Parish Choir: Our largest choir sings weekly for the 10:30 Sunday service. This fall we’ll sing the John Rutter Requiem with chamber orchestra on Sunday morning, Nov. 13. This choir is open to all adults and high school youth. We welcome new members, and we will help you find your singing voice. Rehearsals: Wed. 6:30-8 p.m., room 304. Begins: Aug. 17. Contact: Dr. Jane Gamble

Motet Choir: Our chamber choral ensemble is comprised of auditioned volunteer and professional singers who sing for choral evensongs and other liturgies during the season. Rehearsals: Wed. 8-9 p.m., room 304. Begins: Sept. 7. Contact: Dr. David Ouzts

Taizé Schola Cantorum: This small group of singers provides musical leadership for our popular bi-weekly Taizé services. Informal rehearsals take place in the church just prior to the 5:30 services. No “appointment” is necessary – come and sing anytime! Rehearsals: First and third Sundays 4:30-5:15 p.m. Begins: Sept. 4. Contact: Dr. David Ouzts

Holy Communion Ringers: This group has enjoyed continued success in recent years, including attending the local festival River City Ring each year. We have one ringer position open for this season. Basic music reading is necessary, and handbell ringing is great fun, to which any member will attest. Rehearsals: Sun. 6:30-7:30 p.m., room 304. Begins: Sept. 11. Contact: Dr. David Ouzts

We are expanding our children’s choir offerings this season, thanks to the expertise of Ellen Koziel, our new assistant minister of music. We will now offer two children’s choirs, one for older children and one for younger children. Mrs. Koziel is a multi-degreed children’s music educator with years of experience and well-known and respected in the region.

Holy Communion Choristers (grades 2-6): Our new CHC Choristers will sing on Sunday mornings one or two times per month. Using the Voice for Life curriculum of the Royal School of Church Music, our boys and girls will join children world-wide in learning music reading, good singing skills, Episcopal worship tradition and the discipleship and spiritual aspects of church choir participation. They will also attend a weekend RSCM festival in Nashville in March 2017 and will have the opportunity to attend the RSCM Course in St. Louis next summer. Rehearsals: 6:30-7:30 p..m. on Wednesday evenings, Room 314. Begins: Aug. 24. Contact: Mrs. Ellen Koziel

St. Cecilia Choir (senior kindergarten and first grade): Named for the patron saint for music, this new children’s choir will be our introductory experience to Episcopal servant leadership by choir participation, music reading skills, basic liturgy and worship tradition, and developing the child’s singing voice properly for their age level. The St. Cecilia Choir will sing a few times each semester including All Saints’ Sunday and the Christmas Eve Pageant. Rehearsals: 5:15-5:45 on Wednesday evenings, Room 314. Begins: Wed., Aug. 24. Contact: Mrs. Ellen Koziel
